Twenty CCU students study security in Cyprus and Greece over the summer

CCU's Honors Program graduates its largest class in program history
Eighty-one Coastal Carolina University students are graduating from the institution's Honors Program. Each graduate has completed a rigorous curriculum composed of at least 24 hours of honors work, including a final honors thesis/project achieving a cumulating grade point average of at least 3.50. The cumulative GPA of the spring graduating class is 3.79. Students presented their work in public forums more than 75 times at conferences or research competitions and have earned numerous awards.

Twelve Coastal Carolina University students earned the President's Award at commencement ceremonies May 4-5, meaning they achieved a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average during their time at CCU.

Outstanding students recognized by their departments at Honors Convocation
Each academic department at Coastal Carolina University selects one student to win the departmental award each year, and that student is recognized at Honors Convocation, this year held on May 3. This year, more than 50 graduate and undergraduate students were recognized with this honor. Departmental awards recognize outstanding academic accomplishments by students as well as contributions to the academic quality of the department. Candidates are nominated and selected by the college faculty.

Lambda Pi Eta
Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, inducted 29 new members at the University of South Carolina Aiken on May 2, 2018. Lambda Pi Eta was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas and the National Communication Association established LPH as an affiliate organization and as the official national communication honor society for undergraduates in 1995. In February, 1996, Lambda Pi Eta was certified by the Association of College Honor Societies, and now there are nearly 500 LPH chapters worldwide. The chapter at USC Aiken, the Nu Rho Chapter, was established in 2001 by Dr. Charmaine Wilson, at the urging of Communication major, Jason J. Hancock '02.

This year, 48 students were inducted into Coastal Carolina University's chapter of Phi Sigma Pi, a social service fraternity. Phi Sigma Pi is a gender-inclusive fraternity that focuses on scholarship, leadership and fellowship. The organization was founded in 1916 and has more than 125 chapters in the United States.

Musical theatre students at Coastal Carolina University brought "35MM," a musical exhibition, to the stage April 19-21. The production was billed as "a groundbreaking reimagining of what the modern American musical can be," and was directed by Robin Edwards Russell.

Phi Eta Sigma, a prestigious national honor society for freshmen, inducted 135 Coastal Carolina University students on Tuesday, April 3, in the Johnson Auditorium in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. Membership celebrates outstanding academic performance after the completion of one full semester of college work. The society is chartered on 378 different campuses across the nation.

More than 45 CCU students inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma
More than 45 Coastal Carolina University students were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, on April 4, 2018. Beta Gamma Sigma encourages and honors academic achievement in the study of business, and cultivates and celebrates leadership and professional excellence. In order for a business program to have a BGS chapter, it must be accredited by AACSB International, and undergraduates must be within the top 10 percent of their business program in order to be inducted into the society.

More than 40 Coastal Carolina University students volunteered during the eighth annual Women's Leadership Conference and Celebration of Inspiring Women Feb. 5-6 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Nearly 800 women attended the conference to hear keynote speakers Jenna Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush, author Cara Brookins, Boeing's Joan Robinson-Berry and NASCAR driver Julia Landauer. The conference is presented by Women in Philanthropy and Leadership (WIPL) at Coastal Carolina University.

CCU students perform in 'Bullets Over Broadway'
Some 36 theater students at Coastal Carolina University had roles in "Bullets Over Broadway: The Musical," which ran from Feb. 8 to 17. The 1920s come roaring to life in this musical adaptation of Woody Allen's Academy Award-winning film. Nominated for six Tony Awards, "Bullets over Broadway: The Musical" is set amid tap-dancing gangsters and high-stepping chorines with a pretentious playwright, an aging leading lady, a ditsy leading man, a desperate producer, a dimwitted chorus girl and her gangster sugar daddy. Adam Pelty, CCU assistant professor of theatre, directs and choreographs the production. The cast includes Benjamin Southerland, Sophis Kider, Bryce Ridley-Williams, Austin Dare, T.J.
