Coastal Carolina University graduates Class of 2016
Approximately 1,100 students were graduation candidates for Coastal Carolina University's commencement ceremonies on May 6 and 7, 2016, at the HTC Center on campus. Grand Strand businessman and civic leader Dennis L. Wade was the speaker for the event, which consisted of four separate ceremonies.

WIPL announces 2015-2016 scholarship recipients
Twenty-seven Coastal Carolina University students have been awarded scholarships totaling $30,000 for the 2015-2016 academic year through Women in Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University (WIPL). The 2015-2016 recipients are from eight states, including 17 from South Carolina.

CCU honors graduation candidates at Aug. 8 commencement
Approximately 300 students were eligible to walk in Coastal Carolina University's summer graduation ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the HTC Center. Pam Martin, Ph.D., professor of politics and international relations, discussed the true value of their diplomas as they begin a new chapter in their lives and placed the new graduates' achievement in a global perspective. "Slightly under 7 percent of the world's population has the degree that you have earned today," she said. "Sixty percent of your fellow U.S. citizens do not have such a degree. Given these statistics, it is clear that you have something to celebrate today!"

Faculty and students recently gathered for Coastal Carolina University's Student Involvement and Leadership Awards (SILA) ceremony which celebrated high achieving students, faculty and staff. Plaques and trophies in the shape of a rooster in honor of CCU's mascot, the Chanticleer, were handed out.

CCU students place at state leadership conference
Eight Coastal Carolina University students recently took first and second place honors in several categories at the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) State Leadership Conference in Charleston. The winning students will travel to Chicago in June to compete at the National Leadership Conference.

CCU seniors exhibit art work in 'Portfolios' exhibitions
Thirty-seven visual art and graphic design students at Coastal Carolina University were recently featured in an exhibition at the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery. The exhibition is a culmination of four years of study, and it featured projects completed during the students' senior theses in print, animation, branding and more.

CCU student wins history award
Cassidy Croskey, a senior history major of Myrtle Beach, is the 2015 recipient of the James Branham History Award, which recognizes the top graduate of Coastal Carolina University's history program. As recipient of the Branham award, Croskey received a certificate, a medallion and a $500 check. She graduated May 9 with a 3.9 grade point average and plans to enter the paralegal program at Duke University. To be considered for the Branham award, students must demonstrate academic excellence, a record of service and a scholarly agenda outside the regular curricular requirements.

Coastal Carolina University honors May 2015 graduates
More than 1,100 students were eligible for degrees at Coastal Carolina University's commencement May 9 at the HTC Center. Michael J. Gerson, a nationally syndicated political columnist and former aide to President George W. Bush, told graduates not to seek a sense of purpose in fame or worldly success. He advised students to "know who you are, be open to grace, and find the freedom to live lightly and generously." Six students were given the President's Award for having a 4.0 grade point average.

CCU students present at Undergraduate Research Competition
Some 83 students participated in the recent Coastal Carolina University Undergraduate Research Competition. Presentations were delivered by students from 20 majors representing all academic colleges, illustrating the outstanding quality of student research at the University. Students presented alone or in teams, and a few presented their work on two different projects. Together, they have served to highlight the considerable research talents of our students and the wealth of experiential learning opportunities at CCU.

Some 147 Coastal Carolina University students were inducted into the campus chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. The annual induction was held April 16, with Juliana Harding, assistant professor of marine science, delivering the keynote address.

Students nominated for 2015 Ronald D. Lackey service award at CCU
Seven seniors at Coastal Carolina University have been nominated for the prestigious 2015 Ronald D. Lackey service award. The winner will be announced at the Student Involvement and Leadership Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, in Wheelwright Auditorium at 7 p.m. The Ronald D. Lackey Service Award was established in 1991 in honor of the late Ronald Lackey for his dedication to campus and community service. The award is presented annually to a CCU senior who serves the University community with conspicuous service through involvement and leadership in campus and community activities.
